Searching for a new organist/choir director

St. John’s Episcopal Church, the “little church with a big heart” in Boonton, is seeking a part-time organist/choir director to provide music for Sunday worship and special church services throughout the year.

Responsibilities include:

Providing organ music for one traditional Sunday morning service on St. John’s refurbished E. and G.G. Hook pipe organ. The sanctuary also has a piano.

• Providing music for special church services such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week worship.
• Rehearsing and accompanying the choir, which sings September through June. Rehearsals currently are held Sunday mornings.
• Collaborating with the minister to plan worship music.
• Arranging for a qualified substitute musician when absent for a worship service.
• Providing music for weddings and funerals, if available. (Additional compensation would be provided.)

Familiarity with Episcopal liturgy and music, including chant, are a plus. The position offers the opportunity to grow St. John’s small choir, to work with soloists or instrumentalists for special occasions, and to develop special musical offerings including concerts.

Compensation: $8,300 per year.
